Brian Doyle ’78 (d. 2017) wrote an
article for the autumn 2012 issue of the Notre
Dame Magazine titled “His Last Game” (link).
That heart-warming story described an afternoon he spent with his terminally
ill brother Kevin Doyle, our 1969 classmate who died of cancer in 2012.
Director Avery Rimer made a ten-minute movie in 2015 based on Brian Doyle’s
story. IMDb described the film:
Two brothers take a drive and notice a myriad of small,
beautiful things rendered all the more exquisite by the older brother's terminal
illness.

Classmate Mike Petersmith brought the movie to my attention through a post on
Facebook. Mike, his future wife Kathy Tonn, and Dick Farrell were classmates at Alleman High School in Rockland
Island, Illinois with Kevin Doyle’s wife, Jane Bates Doyle. Mike, Kathy, and
Jane have stayed in touch through the years.
